ENGLISH AND COMPUTERS: A PASSPORT TO THE FUTURE

In the era we live in, change is inevitable, and whether we like it or not, it affects our professional future as well as our every day life. Each person is unique, with a different personality, different needs and ideologies, and different forms of expression, therefore leaving a distinct imprint on society and mankind.

Society is made up of people with innate inventiveness, that are committed to changing the world, and who are full of enthusiasm and confidence.

Youth

The youth of today are desperately seeking a quick “remedy”, an easy life against customs, values, and traditions that our parents and ancestors tried so hard to preserve.

Our youth is our most valuable asset, which is why their education should start early, preparing them for future challenges they may face. Parents are encouraged to try and direct their children’s “wants” in the right direction from an early age, in order to help them avoid making bad decisions that they might regret for the rest of their lives (and whose consequences they will have to bear). It is for this reason that we encourage and invest in early education and knowledge, in order for us to be able to stand on our own two feet later on and claim the rights that we deserve. A good preparation ultimately leads to a more stable and prosperous life.

“Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today.” -Malcolm X

Adjustment Adaptation

Every young person changes several professions throughout their lifetime. The pro is that there are countless professions that can be adapted and adjusted to suit each individual. Our youth should keep their horizons open in order to have a wide variety of options spanning over different areas. For example, it is un-necessary for someone to be restricted to only being an accountant. He/ she can also be a pianist and a personal trainer. The truth is that our younger generation may pursue professions that do not suit or even interest them. The best solution would therefore be to avoid these decisions and try and be open to various professional possibilities that are offered in the market, while at the same time considering specific factors such as:

  1. The prospects of each profession;
  2. One’s family and financial circumstances;
  3. Their personal performance and interests

Many people do not consider the factors mentioned above when taking a decision, even though they are often crucial. They seek a professional career that others have studied and exercise, thinking that they will succeed, but end up in a field of study that may be in demand as a profession but does not attract them at all. As a result they are miserable for the rest of their lives.

Knowledge

Nowadays, factors such as knowledge of the English language, of computers, and the constant renewal of our experiences and knowledge have become essential qualifications. For this reason, and in order for their professional journey to be as pleasant and as efficient as possible, today’s youth should try developing their individuality, learn to take initiative, constantly improve themselves, not be afraid of pressure and hard work, and have open horizons to anything new.

There is no need for young people to get disappointed with the dead ends that the public sector often leads to. They should instead accept it, move on, and try to build their own future as well as their nation’s with patience and perseverance. Our youth can utilise their skills, talents, personal inclinations, as well as career counsellors, to target and properly direct their educational choices and career and hence their professional future - because “the future always belongs to those who plan it properly!”
