UCAS Clearing 2017, How important is it?
SECOND CHANCE IN REGISTERING TO ENGLISH UNIVERSITIES
DEADLINE: 20TH OF SEPTEMBER

If you tried to secure a position at a UK university but you were not successful in your application, or you have not submitted an application yet, do not despair.
Every year after the application submission for entry to UK universities, prospective students have a second chance to submit an application through UCAS*.
After the first round of applications to UK universities, universities count their new students and offer any available places in their programmes through the “Clearing” procedure. The number of available places is published through the central agency, and prospective students who are believed to have the capabilities to enter a specific programme are given a second chance to apply for any available positions.

The deadline for applying through the Clearing process is the 20th of September.
Eligibility for Clearing is only available if no other university has made you an offer, or if you have rejected an offer(s) made to you.
We would advise that the first step for taking advantage of this opportunity is to find the universities offering available positions through the UCAS specialized course tool.
The second step is to decide which university is more suitable for you. Note down any questions you might have, such as questions regarding accommodation, certificates that need to be submitted to help your application, etc. Please take into consideration that you will need to prepare an answer to the question “Why did you choose our University?”- which will most certainly come up.

After you have completed the above, you need to make sure there is an available place at your chosen university and to check whether you meet the criteria for acceptance so that you do not loose this second opportunity. It is advised you speak directly with the university or with a university representative. This will accelerate the application process since the admission officers will already know about your interest for the position.

The third step is to seek help from a Career Counsellor or Educational Consultant, or directly communicate with the university of your choice, to prepare and submit an application. Please, make sure you have the appropriate requirements such as a school certificate, English examination, A-levels, and any other additional required certificates depending on each individual case/ university.

If the university accepts your application they will send you an email and a confirmation of your position will also be provided through your UCAS application. It is important to print your Acceptance Letter, since you will need it when you go to the university for registration purposes and for opening a bank account in the UK.
The process of choosing a university degree, the application process and, finally, the registration process, involves some difficult stages that often require some expertise. This is one of the reasons why it would be helpful to consult a professional Career Counsellor, who possesses the necessary knowledge and experiences to make sure that your second chance in registering at a UK university does not go to waste.
